Help! spitting out bloody veins/guts?!!?

hi i am a 15 year old girl. i recently became sick so i went to the doctors on tuesday. she told me i have a throat infection and an ear infection. i have been off school since tuesday because i am so sick. today though i thought i was bringing up phlegm but when i looked, it was kind of a bloody sort of like veins or guts, definitely not phlegm. i haven't been coughing a lot either. what might this be or what should i do?
