I'm with Meagan on this as well, I don't think you understand the correct use of spurs. A horse will not mind a properly used spur, they are meant to be used as a refinement of cues. It doesn't teach a horse bad habits unless used improperly, it teaches them to be very light and allows the rider to give the smallest specific cues for advanced maneuvers.
