Pls answer!Why would my lecturer be surprised with everything I say during a conversation?

We were chatting and through the whole conversation he kept raising his eyebrows by any point that I made about humanitarian issues, about miracles, about standards of beauty, about spirituality, about the worth of the good and the right over the bad and the unjust..He just seems really surprised whenever I open my mouth about these things. Why is that?These are not strange opinions are they? Why would you be so shocked? It wasn't a condescending eyebrow raise either like "I cannot believe you think such a thing" more like a general surprise..
